Discover, Don't Find
For many of us COVID was a good time to stay grounded and focused. To work on the things or projects we’ve always desired. Especially, within ourselves. We found the time. Yet, the world opens back up, your favorite brunch spot offers endless mimosas again and you abandon yourself.
“Where did the time go” you ask. Well, the time stayed the same. The extra free time that landed in our laps. Some of you used it and some of you did not. Some of you started a business or an internal practice that changed you, permanently.
The time has not changed. What has changed is your ability to stay with it. To stay focused. To stay disciplined. Much today is not due to a lack of time. It’s due to a lack of self-discipline. And surrender. It is the same time before COVID that made itself obvious during. And today.
The biggest lie you told yourself was “when things get back to normal.” Or, “when COVID is over..”
You’re delaying. You’re dying a slow death of inactivity, inefficiency and ignorance. No, this blog post today is not to ensure you max out every hour of every day. It is, however, a wake up call. A call to action. A call to arms. Your life will not be what you want it to be unless you do something about it. The gesture, as I’ve written before, does not have to be grand. Your intent however, does.
Life is, challenging. There are children to care for. Errands to run. Health and health concerns to manage. Finances to maneuver. Marriages that need repairing or exiting all together. How does one find the time?
You may be asking yourself this question at this moment. Balance is not something you find, it’s something you discover. This may seem like a matter of semantics. But you can stumble into something and simply find it. A $5 bill on the floor. When you discover something it finds you. Internally it lives and comes out of you. It may be religion, a principle in life you live by, meditation, therapy or journaling. It’s a deeper and transformational process. So where do you find the time? You discover it. You say no more and yes less. You put the essential things first. “When you say no, you have the double benefit of doing what you say yes to better,” says Ryan Holiday, best-selling author.
There are many ways to get there. In truth, I have written of several. However, ultimately, you must have the mindset before anything else. What do you want? What will you do to get there? That’s where it starts.
