Surrender Don't Commit
You’ll hear it all over social media. New book releases will talk about it. The act of being committed, to display and have it. It’s hard to arrive at a high level of commitment, when the pressure is on. In your studies when you’re tired. To the gym when you’re sore and the couch is a better option. To commit is to pledge to do something, to tie yourself to it.
To surrender is a completely different action and what matters more than just commitment. When you surrender you stop resisting and you submit to the authority. You may be paying down debt, saving for a down payment of a home, losing 50 pounds or being a good spouse/partner.
Molly Bloom in a recent podcast mentioned the importance of surrender over commitment. Surrender to the process, to the work, to what’s in front of you. Commitment allows you to show up, surrender allows change to happen.
You become taken over when you surrender. The act of going to the gym after work is commitment. Doing the work out the best you can is to surrender. To sit down to write the book is commitment, when you surrender you fall in love with the process and the prospect of the book taking you two years. You commit when you attend rehab, you surrender when you allow rehab to do the work inside of you. You commit by paying for the course or class, you surrender when you work the program as it’s designed.
Commitment is to promise. Surrender is to follow through on that promise. While commitment is important to get you started, surrender will allow you to finish. You think surrender means lack of control or giving your control away. False. You gain so much back. Surrendering, is removing the resistance in your mind, which is the biggest enemy we face day to day. By surrendering, you become powerful, not powerless.
