Too often the personal finance coaches, guru’s and enthusiasts take extreme measures. For example, don’t buy coffee, don’t eat out and shop at thrift stores.
While this can be helpful in certain situations, not everyone has the same scenario that needs to be addressed. Money is meant to be enjoyed, just as much as it’s supposed to be invested. Money has many uses. Not buying coffee alone won’t lead to financial prosperity. Not going out to eat won’t either, but it will probably save you a lot of money.
At some point though, you have to consider that maybe you want a $5 coffee. That you want to go to your favorite restaurant or the mall to buy a new pair of jeans.
Why should you have to lower any of your standards because someone on social media told you to? Or because you believe to be financially responsible you have to go the cheap route.
There are many things I cannot justify spending money on. And then there are other things that I will spend a lot of money on. But all the money that is spent is in proportion to our income. It is planned out, thought about and done responsibly.
So when you spend, be sure to do it responsibly. Spend what you want on things you value and spend nothing on the things you don’t. Do it in proportion to your income. Do it with money you have not money you don’t. Spend after you have a plan, after you think about it. Spend responsibly.
