As parents, part of the development and growth of your children is based on trust. Not only when they’re fourteen and you let them go out with friends or give them the blessing to attend a sleepover.
It begins at any age. At fourteen, at then and at three. Why should we trust? It’s an important lesson even if children don’t understand yet. It builds confidence in them, independence and helps create their identity.
It won’t always be easy, perfect or effective. However, just like all of parenting, it reaps rewards over time. It may be today that they put their toys away. Tomorrow it might be allowing them to prep their own meal. Much later it may be going on their first date.
Trust is imperative to parenting as it allows for our children to help us out when needed. Gaining a layer of responsibility in the process.
So what can you trust your kids to do today? If you think this is crazy, then it’s even more important that you try this. Especially if you feel you cannot trust your children at all. Building and maintaining trust all has a beginning. Do not hold your children’s mistakes against them.
