The representation is staggering. For this interest or that one. Guns. Drugs. Technology. Health care.Education. And countless others.
These are lobbyist. Someone who gets paid to advance the interest of an organization, cause or person. To get through the proverbial red tape. To bend or shape legislation one way or another. With large sums of money spent in hopes of influencing decision makers, some may say buying them out.
A great deal of the changes here in the U.S. comes from the lobbying efforts and initiatives. Whether we agree with it or not, it's fact. So it got me thinking... who's lobbying for you?
You are. There is no team to push your agenda or accomplish what you set out. You are on your own. You are your own advocate. You develop yourself. You build your own relationships. Collect your own information. No one pays you to do the work on your body, mind, or creative endeavor. The game you're in, this life, is a one person sport. You have to cut your own red tape.
That is what makes it so hard or it feels like drudgery. Waking up early. Staying up late. A sore body, a tired mind, or a hurt ego when the plans or ideas don't go to plan. But just as a professional lobbyist keeps showing up every day, we do the same. The potential loss is to big if we don't. We are on our own. Some help may come along the way, but we don't count on that or of it staying. We are on our own path, avoiding the distractions by those aimlessly lost and how their foot steps might intersect ours. We know where we're going or which way to go. We just have to stay on the path and not be kept on it. While subtle, the difference is distinct.
How bad do you want "it?" What are you willing to do to capture and keep it? What are you lobbying for and why?
