“To those human being who are of any concern to me I wish you suffering, desolation, sickness, ill-treatment, indignities—I wish that they should not remain unfamiliar with profound self-contempt, the torture of self-mistrust, the wretchedness of the vanquished: I have no pity for them, because I wish them the only thing that can prove today whether one is worth anything or not-that one endures.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
Wow! What gift is left for us all. The inheritance of this life. Why?
Nietzsche was aware of something in his time that has been true for centuries. Since the beginning of time.. Pain, challenges, obstacles, and sickness. The only way we grow and develop. The only training for life is what we go through. What we have been through in the past is what gets us through the challenges of today. Over time we garner and acquire the mental toughness to survive; only if we go through shit. While strong words from one of the most influential philosophers, I personally can attest that he is right. Hard to hear. Yet, we should all express gratitude for such truth.
Thought Provoking Question 1 : What have you learned from going through: suffering, sickness, pain, torture, self-mistrust and wretchedness?
