I believe it was Winston Churchill who said, “success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
It’s hard to do something we never have. Pay down debt, go through divorce, start or sell a business. Or maybe learn a new language or start a creative project.
When you succeed, the work is not done. There is a next level. We see this in sport; the likes of Tom Brady and Lebron James. Each level of success they master, the work they put in gets stronger. Its the process of getting better for them, that’s what counts.
So what, you failed. We all do. An exam. A relationship. A marriage. A business or book. Failure is not the end. Like Ryan Holiday says, “failure is showing you what is not the way. Its showing us what did not work.”
Meaning, when we fail, it’s a lesson. Friedrich Nietzsche has a great quote on this, for more go see yesterday’s blog entry.
All that matters is you being brave enough to continue. No matter how much it hurts. Regardless of how hard the competition is. When the path gets dark, foggy and slippery to walk on, you say, “fuck yes, let’s do this.”
Where would we be as a country without courage? Men and women who lived by this ideal. What about your ancestors?
And here you are. Complaining because it’s raining, too hot or cold. Seriously!? That’s what you’re worried about? While our ancestors crossed borders and bodies of water, with nothing to their name. They came to the U.S. and made it happen.
How you ask? Courage. That’s all that counts.
