We need to do a better job at understanding our times.
Social media influencing hustle culture. Others telling us how we should be. What a man or woman is. Or what we need to be.
Resilience is on that list. It's quite the misnomer - what it is exactly. For some, it means going forward regardless of the pain. The ultimate sign of toughness. What must be considered - resilience is our ability to withstand or recover from difficulty. Certainly, it is not withstanding meaningless difficulty or anything that can be avoidable.
Ross Edgley wrote a book titled, 'The Art of Resilience, ' and he defines resilience as "suffering strategically managed."
Ross uses an example of a marathon runner having a pebble in their show. Resilience is not to continue running, as that is unavoidable. The runner should stop and take the pebble out.
Save your resilience for what matters. And if it's avoidable, then avoid it. This way you have more in reserves for when it's needed.
