Upside Down Urinal
The year is 1917. In New York, there was an art exhibition held by the society of Independent Artists. Here, a hilarious submission was made. It changed the way art has been looked at and since then we have seen other variations of it. Such as a banana tapped to a wall.
At this art exhibition in 1917 it was an upside down urinal. Submitted by Marcel Duchamp. Whether or not you think an upside down urinal is art is all perspective. To the artist it could have been. Or perhaps, he was playing a joke.
Nonetheless, the concept of perception is so important. How you see something, will invariably be different that how others see it. Through this we have certain preferences. We see life differently. Your glasses may be rose colored or sky blue. What you see in front of you or within yourself comes down to perspective.
So when faced with a bad day, is it really that bad? Or are you seeing it as bad. No doubt, unfortunate events will happen. Inconveniences will present themselves. However, it’s not what happens but your perception of what happens. Sure, an upside down urinal is funny. But what isn’t, is how much control you lose when you have the wrong perception. It guides how you think and react. It guides how you see everything and everyone around you.
Thought Provoking Questions : How can you look at it differently?
Daily I write and release a daily meditation. A quick read. Sharing wisdom and asking thought-provoking questions. Influenced by the obstacles, success and failures in my life and of others. Using history, books, current events, philosophy, and ancient wisdom. These writings are actionable, thought-provoking, designed to make your life better.
These writings are not to push a way of thinking on the reader or to force you into a certain philosophy or methodology. Rather to give you practical and real ways to handle life. This is an added tool. My writing is simply a discussion, a discourse, with all the material I read, watch, hear and consume.
