Living in the present is hard. Being satisfied with what you have also. Delayed gratification is a rarity these days. So you look forward to the future. Be it close or in the distance. How “life can be so much better if___________.”
You can insert any word you choose.
We focus a lot of time and attention on creating beauty around us. A lavish vacation that costs more than we can afford, at some point in the future. Desperately waiting for a moment in time so that what we desire can happen. Hoping to sneak out of this tough time so you can move on with your life. This time in your life may not be as good as it once were or as beautiful as it can be. But reflecting on what Jean-Paul Sartre said;
“There may be more beautiful times, but this one is ours.”
We only own now. In the past there may have been something or someone better. But now, is now. In the future, no one knows what it holds. So worrying or stressing about today, is irrelevant in your eyes. There will be people and times that are better off. On the contrary things can also be worse.
There is nothing more freeing and empowering than now. The present moment and how beautiful it is. Furthermore, who you share it with. What you do with the present moment. Yesterday might have been great, tomorrow even better. But today, is the gift. Which is why it’s called the present. This moment is all that matters. Take it. It’s yours.
