They Don't Do It All
You look at other families or successful people and wonder how they do it all. It’s impossible, you tell yourself. They can have a career, children, a life and they seemingly hit all the notes in life. They are active in the community. They work out. They show up at every school activity. They live the perfect life; a mix of money, power, respect, career and family. What is the secret? How do they do it all?
They don’t do it all, they have help.
They may have an active and supportive extended family that can help with the kids, which frees them up for work. They could have the resources to hire a nanny or full-time child care at a daycare. They may have a flexible job which allows them to be everywhere or maybe they don’t work and are supported financially by a spouse, a trust fund or inheritance from a deceased.
You don’t know the how you only see the what. However this is true for anyone crushing it in their lives or careers.
Elite athletes have coaches, personal trainers, chefs, stylists, publicists, and more. A team of people dedicated to ensure that the athlete is set to perform his/her best. For example, Lebron James at one point was reported spending more than $1 million per year on his body.
Successful lawyers have a team to help them.
Successful people in business have employees and assistants.
Great writers have editors and research assistants.
Doctors have a staff, from the receptionist on forward.
You too can have the help you need or want, only if you want it. So what help do you need and where?
Maybe you order your groceries with a personal shopper. You could have someone come clean your home or cut your grass. You can hire a nanny or tutor for your kids, even if it's part-time.
Like a rowing team, everyone is row and moving at the same time in a certain way to face the waters ahead. So too in life. We have a team of people around us to help us get there. Asking or wanting for help is not weakness. It’s actually strength, in the recognition that you cannot do it all. We all need help.
There are ways that you too can get help so that you too can do it all. It takes a village the saying goes. Find your village. Be part of it too. Don’t just expect to get the help without serving someone else when they need it.
