"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." -Corrie ten Boom, Dutch watchmaker and writer.
The next policy change. The next executive order. Your child just came home with a cough. The mortgage is due and you can’t see how it will get paid. The check engine light came on.
The list goes on. We worry about things that matter. We worry about the possibility of inconvenience. About having to miss a day or two of work. About things that happen across the breaking news ticker. All this worry is robbing us of today, of our ability to do something today. About being present with today.
What we worry about could be well founded, and real. But worry punishes us before we need to be and thus, punishes us more than we need to be. So take your worry and write about it. Take it out for a walk or run. My favorite thing to do when I worry is to take a nap. Not sure how or why, but it helps. Then I go for a walk and I journal about the worry. I bring it to life, I give it a face. And, I can better trace where it comes from.
So the challenge right now, for what you're worried about, is to regain control of yourself. Remember, you are in control of your thoughts, not outside events. You have no control over what happens, but you control your response to what happens. The thoughts you have, color your perspective. So, whet colors are you using? What thoughts are being had?
