The problem just might be that you don’t play. You’re all work. As kids play is essential to development, giving room for social interaction and the imagination to flourish. Yet, as adults we don’t play at all. We work, create things, have relationships, children and live a version of our dreams. Or so we think.
How do you know what you want if you have zero play in your life. For kids, play can be many things. For adults it’s a hobby. Winston Churchill used to say that everyone should have a few good hobbies. The escape from life that a hobby brings we all need. It recharges you, a hobby provides a level of fun and disconnects from life. The stresses. The work. The marriage that is bumpy right now. A child in a phase of acting out.
We wonder why we are so unhappy, stressed and like we’re just hamsters on a wheel. But we do not slow down enough to tap into ourselves. Hobbies are self-care and are needed. There are hundreds of hobbies that you can discover and try. And don’t say you don’t have time because if you don’t, this is precisely why you need one.
George Bernard Shaw said, “we don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.”
