The act of lying impacts many - people we work with, people we love, our customers or the general public. It first impacts us. By performing such an act it gives room for more lies - and we ultimately start to believe them.
Your lies may be on how you see yourself - be it not smart of qualified enough or more blatantly telling yourself that everyone is doing it, why not me? As a way to justify unethical or unjust behavior.
Those lies first hurt us - the liar. And they get bigger. Subsequently, we create a story - a narrative based on these lies. Making a mistake doesn't mean you are one. Having an ugly moment doesn't mean we're ugly. Facing problems doesn't mean we are one. Doing something dumb does not make us dumb. Anger, doesn't mean we're angry people. A bad day doesn't mean life sucks.
We each decide what this all means - the lies and their corresponding narratives. We decide what we give power to. Is it a lesson or loss? A success or lucky break? An opportunity or all hope is lost?
Focus on the right narrative. More over, don't lie.Yes it hurts others. It also hurts you.
