President Harry S. Truman had a sign on his desk that read, “the buck stops here.” Truman knew as president, all decisions ran through him. He was the man in charge. He had tough decisions to make as president and many of the came early on in his presidency. What are the options? Run and procrastinate or make the tough calls. Truman did the job he was elected for.
We too must do our jobs, whatever that is. Work over time. Stay up all night with a sick child. Get an extra job to pay down debt. Ride the bus while you save up money for a car. Say no to brunch because you’re trying to gain control of your money. Put in the work your marriage requires. Leave the job to start a business or stay at the job you hate because its part of a better plan. While we don’t face decisions about war and national security, the choices we have to make impact our safety and mental well-being.
Remember the buck stops with you! You are in control. You are the CEO of your own life. The only thing you control is what you say, do and think. Outside events are outside your control. What the IRS or Government do is outside your control. How the stock market performs is outside your control.
The buck of all the choices you have to make stops with you. Choose wisely.
