Imagine spending your whole life working at something. All the pain, sacrifice, years of practice and effort. Today, marking the BIG GAME, the Super Bowl. While many of you are gathering foods and making final plans, let’s think about the game. Some players will never make it here again.
The odds of simply becoming a professional football player are low. Even lower is making it to the big game. And less than that, is going back more than once.
No player in tonight’s game is clueless on how he or the team got there. As a matter of fact if you ask, they may say the following:
We believed in something bigger than ourselves.
We worked together to make this happen.
We stayed with the plan all along. Especially when it got hard.
We stayed focused and played one game at a time.
Most players selfishly play to get a bigger contract or to make the bonuses that are tied to performance. However, the great teams that win do it for something bigger than just themselves. “We did it for coach,” one player said. This was the way the Colts beat the Chicago Bears in the 2006–2007 season to win their super bowl. Head Coach Tony Dungy had lost one of his sons to suicide and this brought the team together in a way no one could have imagined.
Success as a team or an individual comes down to a few common points.
Something bigger than YOU
Effort
Hard Work
Repetition
Following a plan
Patience
So as you look at your life, money, marriage, relationships, career, education, parenting, etc, you must have a plan to be great. To be the best you can be. To do your best, step by step. That is no small thing.
