What Philosophy Says About Wealthy
“Being poor is not having too little, it is wanting more”. Seneca
We all want stuff. But we want too much of it. Garages full of crap. Basements filled with totes and boxes. Then we need more space so we pay $200-$300 per month for a storage space for more stuff we don’t need.
And we still want more.
Seneca’s take if you sit with it, is true and powerful. How many of us have credit card debt with nothing to show for it? Or maybe you have a closet full of proof.
Being rich is all a state of mind. It doesn’t have to be measured with money. Rich are the moments with your partner, family, kids and friends. Rich is what you already have that is meaningful to you. Not what you think will define who you are to others. Money cannot acquire happiness but it can buy you stuff and that won’t make life great. None of it moves in with us to our eternal home. All of it will be left behind for your family to clean up, throw away or sell.
Being rich is not having a lot, it is having less. The freedom of not wanting more.
