Sometimes The Rules Change
Times have changed. Things are different. It doesn’t mean things are worse. People change. What someone once thought has evolved. What they once laughed at is no longer funny. The rules change.
That’s what Jerry Seinfeld shares in this 2018 podcast episode. Early in his career, television and radio networks started to ban curse words. The rules, the times and the people started to change.
As you can imagine this was not met with open arms and acceptance. Naturally, change is hard for some of us. Seinfeld had a choice, to adapt and follow the new rules. Or, be censored off. He decided to play within the rules.
The things around us are always changing. Your department at work gets cut down or joins another. Perhaps there are new processes in place. The way COVID changed things permanently. We have same sex marriage. Bi-racial couples. We had a black President.
You aren’t forced to follow the rules. You end up with a choice. Do I follow the new speed limit or do I not?
Regardless of what the example is there are consequences for not abiding by a set of rules or changes to those rules. Some consequences may have legal implications while others are social or relational. Others might be professional.
Change is natural and an inevitable part of our lives. Embrace the change. Adapt to your surroundings.
Thought Provoking Questions : How are you going to handle a change in your industry or work?
Daily I write and release a daily meditation. A quick read. Sharing wisdom and asking thought-provoking questions. Influenced by the obstacles, success and failures in my life and of others. Using history, books, current events, philosophy, and ancient wisdom. These writings are actionable, thought-provoking, designed to make your life better.
These writings are not to push a way of thinking on the reader or to force you into a certain philosophy or methodology. Rather to give you practical and real ways to handle life. This is an added tool. My writing is simply a discussion, a discourse, with all the material I read, watch, hear and consume.
