Some days we won't be our best. Some days we take a short cut or don't do all we need to. Some days, we show up late; like me, today.
I do my writing in the mornings, Between 3-5 am I wake, take a cold shower, stretch and write. By 5 am I post here, for all of you to read.
By now, I can think of a few of you that have looked in your email inbox and wonder where this blog is.
Well, here it is. I woke up around 5 with a splitting headache. Lately, I've been battling some illness that has worn me down and a one year old with his lower and upper molars growing in. He's very uncomfortable and not sleeping well.
But I return to it - what I love doing. Writing. Parenting. Living. It reminds me that the things and people who are important to me are not a to-do list. But a priority. At times, we will have priorities that compete and we have to decide which comes first. My children came first today and so I'm late to you.
Moments like this remind me the importance of flexibility and as we wrote about recently, what resilience is about. Being adaptable to external forces. Times like this highlight the importance of having practices, and not routines. The rigidity of routines might send someone spiraling if things don't happen exactly as they want, when they want and with a certain outcome. For me, there are practices that I do daily and when I do them, my day is accomplished. I just happen to get my writing done by 5 am, almost every day for the last 4 or so years.
So a reminder - show up, even if its late. Be adaptable to change and welcome it as this reinforces who you are and what you're capable of.
Me must allow ourselves some grace along the way. This was a great reminder today!
I like to practice "bending", not "breaking" in instances like this. We can use our routine to hop right back in the race, even if we took a pitstop. I too slept late today, but hopped right back in the race even though I was running behind. Appreciate you.
