We just have to show up. Then prepare.
Comedian Chris Rock, way before making it, would do just that. He would show up at comedy clubs at 745pm and wait for his name to be called. Time would pass: 11pm, 12am, 1 and 2am, and his name would not get called.
So Rock just kept preparing so when his name did get called, he was ready. Now, this doesn't mean he was terrible at first, because he was. What worked was the desire and persistence to show up, and do the work. When in fact it is very easy to quit. Think about what you've stopped doing.
There is a line that I love, “I make the money during the day, I collect it at night.” That was Chris Rock. Sharing that he keeps working at the craft, well after making it. He spends time writing and creating a seamless structure in his comedic approach and presentation.
We can all learn from this. Just show up. Do the work. Repeat it again tomorrow. Success is stacking attempts and possibly, failures, on top of each other and we stand on top of it all.
