We take on majors in school because our friends did or pick a college because our girlfriend is going there. Taking on jobs because someone you know works there or taking a job for more money without realizing it’s the same job you have now that you hate. The only difference is more money. We get misguided guidance from our parents and others in positions we look towards for advice.
We conform so badly to society that we lose ourselves in the process. You’ll look up at 70 and hate everything about your life if you do.
Which is why I’m a fan of Dave Ramsey. In a culture drowning in debt and normalizing being stressed about money, he stands for the opposite. “Be weird,” Dave says when it comes to paying off and avoiding debt. People think debt is normal.
People think following the crowd is normal. Be your own leader. Move in your own lane. You owe it to yourself and your ancestors. By following others you’re limiting yourself and your life. Work becomes boring when it should be something that moves you. You settle to just get by instead of striving to beat your personal best. This is no way to live.
Runaway from your peers and all social norms. Normal is broke and dumb. Aim for more.
