From “no” to best selling book
Overcoming a no is difficult. Over the last few days I’ve covered it in different ways.
Morgan Housel, author of “The Psychology of Money,” could not sell his book to a publisher. Admittingly he writes a book in a very competitive market, the money space. An area many authors have attempted to write in and fail. Moran also failed several times.
Interestingly enough, his agent fired him because she could not sell his book to any publisher. She never had that happen before.
So how does a book that would not be picked up by a publisher sell over 2 million copies?
Morgan simply did not give up. He eventually found a very small publisher that took a chance on him and Moran took a chance on them. “The whole team at this publisher was 5 people,” Morgan said in a podcast interview.
Well the investment they both had in each other paid off! Morgan is now a thought leader in the space and his publisher looks like a genius.
Writing a book about anything is far from easy. So imagine putting in years of work to then get rejected time after time.
Yes it’s easy to say “don’t give up,” but no other sentiment fits the narrative. “You only fail when you quit,” said Alex Hormozi, Founder of Acquisition.com.
