We've talked about the 10,000 hours and what that means in regards to greatness as Malcolm Gladwell writes in 'Outliers,' For my journey there and my approach, I chip away at it every day. I write everyday, not just this blog, also with pencil and paper. I read everyday as reading is the source of ideas and material to use.
I am constantly thinking and making connections to what I read/watch/listen to. I write on 5x7 notecards and store them in a box meant for photographs - organized by theme with dividers.
I learned this approach from Robert Greene. Just like I learned from Robert that this requires "focus and prioritization." Keeping my eye on my long term goal and allowing myself the luxury of exploring creatively, but always with a clear purpose. I don't know where I am on my journey to 10,000 hours, nor do I care. Because I show up everyday and do it. Everyday I start over.
As a writer i believe this is an act, to be carried out for life.
"Nothing really belongs to us but time, which even he has who has nothing else. It is equally unfortunate to waste your precious life in mechanical tasks or in a profusion of important work." -Baltasar Graciān
