We have to do a better job. Everything doesn't need an opinion. Everyone doesn't need an explanation. Social media encourages the opposite. Within seconds, we can and are baited to express a rant or opinion. We feel empowered to do so. We feel entitled, freedom of free speech and all. But do we actually need an opinion?
Let's put it this way. Assume someone says something about you, behind your back without your knowing. Would that bother you? No, you never knew of its existence. Yet, if you did hear someone speak badly of you, criticizing and judging you, you would feel offended. Hurt. Harmed. The only difference there is you actually heard the remarks.
So by us doing better, we should use that same indifference when we don't know someone is talking about us and apply it to when they do. Because having an opinion on their opinion is a waste of time. Its energy spent that bears no fruit. Just a spat that has no end, a dog, chasing its tail. So the challenge - be unbothered, unprovoked by the comments/opinions of others.
Not having an opinion on things brings great peace of mind, Also, we avoid being swallowed up by that negative energy. You feel more in control. Secure in yourself and where you are in life.
Beware, opinions are popular. Have you spent any time on Twitter (X) lately? Newspapers are flooded with Op-Ed's as opinions fill newspapers, they are cheaper than real journalism and they feed the moment, which sells more. Even professional, life long journalists, struggle with the "opinion complex.'
In sports the same is true for talk radio or TV personalities, like Skip Bayless or Steven A. Smith. These talking heads just spin ridiculous questions and then 'opinionate’ on them. These shows get massive viewership. Again, perpetuating the opinion culture. Just because we have one, doesn't mean its valid. And truthfully, no one actually gives a shit. Its best to stay quiet, keep your head down and work.
