More Mountains
That moment when you’re standing on top of the mountain. Looking about. Or you cross the finish line in some race, or any other theoretical finish line in your life. A project in school or work. You clean your home or car. You have a tough day with your child. You and your friend just cleared up a situation that caused a lot of tension. The up hill fight after you’ve been given a diagnoses and prognoses. Or the sluggish hike up a steep mountain in your marriage, job, or even with yourself.
Behind mountains are more mountains (Haitian Proverb).
Life is filled with challenges and once you feel like you’ve made it to the top of it, look around. There are still more. There will be more. There are more steps to take. Rocks to climb. Boulders in all directions that need to be conquered.
Will you conquer them?
Life as social media will show you is not that way. Life is hard. Life can be ugly, cruel and at times evil. Tragedy may strike. Pain may ensue. So many things can happen or go differently than you want or expect. But, you still have to climb your mountain. And, when you do, there will be a next one. And the one after that. The next fight with someone you love. That next disappointment with a friend or co-worker. The next time you doubt yourself or treat yourself poorly.
You are not immune to challenges in this life. Nor will you ever be. So what should you do?
Keep climbing. Keep moving. Because even if you do make it to the top, there are more mountains. Even if your progress is slow and small. It’s better than no progress at all.
It doesn’t just apply to challenges. Also, with success. You land the promotion, well there is another mountain to climb. You and you child repair a tense relationship, there will be another mountain to climb. You’re in a happy marriage or relationship, well there will still be mountains to climb. The work and effort does not stop when things are going well. The mountain in front of you is what you need to focus on. Big or small, easy or difficult. Usually, that mountain you need to conquer is within yourself.
