Andrew Huberman early in his career worked alone. Even living inside his lab, with his dog. He kept a list of scientists and others that he respected. These individuals influenced how he studied, ran his lab and research. Andrew would often look at this list, to remind himself who was on it and to embody the names on the list. He wanted bits and pieces of each name. Sort of a mixing pot of who he thought embodied what he was going after. Reading this list often, Andrew realized that he was practicing introjection.
Andrew explains it a way of taking in the qualities of the people you respect. Think sponge. This can be an author, social media influencer, entrepreneur or a podcast you love. You start to think the way they do, process information the way they do and even ask yourself, “what would <INSERT NAME> do in this situation?”
This is what the greats do in any arena. In investing, we all want to be Warren Buffett. When it comes to business, we want to be Jay-Z, Bill Gates, Oprah or Mark Cuban. In sports, athletes have a list they look at often, to inspire them and copy parts of them to make their own. Pro athletes do this too. They have Kobe, Jordan, Brady, Gretzky, Serena, etc.
So what do you want to become? Do you have a list of those you admire, love and respect? If you don’t, start one today. If you do, start to drill in on who they are, what they do and how they became who they are. Then, embody that. Mold your actions and efforts around what they did.
