Love and Money
Love and Money
When a purpose or calling is found, that's for life. Like an artist, writer, comedian or doctor. Do it for the money? No.
It's done for the love of the game. The craft. The ability to help someone or a group of people. Ask a 3rd grade teacher if they do it for the money? NO. Its all about love for what they do and contribute. Like when athletes say they'd play for free.
The love to teach. Cook. Bake. Solve problems.
Despite that however, we all need to make & living. Rent has to be paid. The love needs support. Ellzabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) made that exact promise. She committed to supporting her writing and not asking for her writing to support her. That is a prime example of what doing it for the love shows.
But, money does create a balance, between the love and satisfaction or fulfillment of that love. It releases the pressures one faces when in that state. Because let's face it, you cannot be a struggling (INSERT NAME HERE) forever.
Yes, we do it for the love. The money just makes things, interesting. It increases the stakes. Its, something extra.
Love has no bounds and we can seamingly magnify it for more.
Yet, over time, that very love that is deep and unwavering, can be the exact thing to deter us from marching forward.
Especially in tough times. Especially, when rent is due and so is the car insurance. It's quite the interesting crossroads.
Money,
compensation, the reward, creates a better balance and state of mind. It has a way of leveling the playing field.
Love for the game and appreciation for the money.
They're on the same coin - love of the game and the money to be made. When you get commissioned to do the job or piece. When the client pays your fee or buys your product.
The win was already had, your profound love for what you do.
The money is just 'green certificates of appreciation,' and we may not want to admit it, but it feeds the love we think is intrinsic. Maybe it was at conception, but with time, we become a hired gun, contracted to carry out a mission. What the money does is, it makes us more aware of what we need to do more and less of. It helps us set up boundaries, an appointment book
or be responsible and file our taxes. It has a way of humanizing what we love, since currency is something we all speak. Whether you're an artist or run/own a smail business.
The cautionary tales are there. And if you don't think so, go do something you hate for a lot of money. Tell us how
long that lasts. Conversely, go do something you
love for little money, and you'll find a way to make it all work. LOVE FOR THE GAME ALWAYS WINS.
