Death hits all of us. Unexpectedly. Old age is not guaranteed. In fact, nothing is. Marriages end. Homes get sold or burn. Cars get in accidents. Jobs are lost. Companies fail. Friendships collapse.
Death is the only guarantee.
So plan on it. Embrace it. Talk about it. More importantly prepare for it. Don’t prepare for it based on what death is. Rather what life is now. “Live today like your last” is a true cliche. However you have to define what that means.
It’s not an excuse to be reckless or make bad choices. Use this as a way to live. A filter for your life. Living with love, kindness and goodness. Not for the material world but for the meaning you want your world to have.
Surveyed at their death — the common trends of people on their deathbed is: time with family, working less and regret for not trying something.
When we are on our deathbed we won’t be thinking about the car, the shoes, the trips. We would trade all of it for more time. To hug our kids, read them a bedtime story, to kiss our spouses. Hug our siblings.
Ask yourself if you were to die today, what would you do differently? How would you redo the day?
Act on that.
