Why You Should Do Work That Matters
“Life is always insipid to those who have no great works in hand or no lofty aims to elevate their feeling.” — Horace Bushnell
I noticed this quote on the outside of the Bushnell Theater in my capital city of Connecticut. So I took this picture:

Insipid is defined as, lacking in flavor, flavorless.
Life is flavorless when you have nothing meaningful to do or meaningful work you are proud to do. When you have no goals or high aspirations, you again lack flavor. We all need something to wake up to. Something in addition to our children, families or partner.
Writing a book.
Starting that photography business you always talk about.
Making and selling those candles.
Starting your vlog on cooking recipes.
Filming yourself working out and posting it on social media.
The list goes on. There are truly endless possibilities.
Life means nothing unless we work towards something. That does not mean you work yourself to the bone or have a job that does not make you feel alive while doing it. While there is nobility in all work, you should all be doing work you love or on the path to get there.
We are made to contribute to something, not just to survive. We are made to fix problems, build things, make lasting relationships and change the world around us. It does not require some grand gesture. Just showing up, every day to do work that matters. That is a life full of flavor. This is what helps us all elevate our feelings; our own self-esteem.
