Just Like That, Its Over
Just Like That, Its Over
The year is 2008 and they are riding high. Winning a Grammy and 4 Tony Awards- At Radio City Music Hall, in New York City, "In The Heights" just won best musical.
The entire crew/cast head towards the stage. Every one is excited and celebrating. Two of the cast members pick up Lin-Manuel Miranda and place them on their shoulders, and carry him up on stage. Miranda, created the idea of the musical (as he did with Hamilton).
But, just like that, it was over, The lights shifted, and the audience started to leave. Everyone thinking about
the after party, or what to eat or what was next for the night.
Tommy Kail, the director of the musical stood on stage alone.
And just like that he thought, "well if this is a pinnacle, and it's over in an instant, and people are already talking about what's next, it can't be about this. It has to be about something more than this." Kail realized it wasn't about the award or the recognition, It was about the work, creating, the process of directing. For the love of the game. Happiness, love, satisfaction, is not determined by the award. But only with the work involved. Imagine pouring years into something to let a 2 minute moment define the entire experience. WILD!Â
