It's no secret. I use typewriters, I love them! When installing a new ink ribbon on one of my word hammers, it truly is exciting...
Ok, now to today's message. Towards the end of 2024 and here approaching our first full week of 2025, consistency is a word or phrase used often. This is a working theory for me, however, I believe consistency is tied with the belief we have within ourselves. My belief is, if you felt inconsistent in 2024 and are still struggling to find what it means in 2025, maybe there is a different problem.
Question: you believe in WiFi, yes? Well, how and why? There is no proof of its existence.
You can't smell it or feel it. The implication is, WiFi just is.
The next question: Why do you believe in a politician? Why do you think any politician will save you, from you? Why do you wear the hats and adopt the slogans and beliefs of others?
Last question (I think): why do you believe in sports teams? Why do you root so hard for them? Why when you speak of a sports team you like, with zero investment or skin in the game, you refer to the team as "we" or "us?"
My working theory is we all want to believe in something or someone. Yet, just not ourselves. And this is why we are not consistent. The lack of foundational belief in ourselves leads to inconsistent action. Since we don't believe, why try? From that stance comes hopelessness and then despair.
We can see the WiFi symbol and immediately trust it. Politicians lie to our face, manipulate us, and steal elections. But still, they smile and we believe. Sports teams have a secret sauce, which is a sense of belonging, entertainment and with the advent of sports betting and fantasy football... shit. Watch out.
Ok, truly the last question: what if we gave ourselves some of the belief we willingly give to others, that play zero role in our lives and well-being? I believe we can become consistent, by first having a consistent belief in who we are, what we can do and what we are capable of. Getting anything done starts with believing you actually can. Once you believe it, you can achieve it.
