I read recently, "don't let perfect be the ebemy of good." I started thinking on how that impacts us and then me specifically. As a writer, that one is obvious. Which is why writing and publishing every day is the extreme measure I take to avoid perfection.
As a father, perfect got in the way of ordinary, day-to-day opportunities to be good.
With goals I carry or visions in other aspects of life, perfect slows me down and distracts me. Personally, I don't have goals. So the above mentioned "goals I carry or visions" is used to convey a message that I hope you, the reader, can grasp. I have daily practices that are important to me. Each day my focus is to do those and when done, I can say I had a good day.
Perfect stands in the way of good there also. We all want to do the best we can, but it gets in our heads. We want to optimize for everything, when all that is required is, to just do and be good. I believe there is how perfection is found. In just doing the best you can. In showing up everyday. In not ignoring the ordinary moments we have, day-to-day to demonstrate good.
If doing something the best we can is all we have, than that is all we need. Perfect is just showing up. In having perfect attendance, that is having it all and is the hardest part.
