These are interesting times. There was a time when it was acceptable to talk politics, it was quite the norm actually in society. However, today, we find less and less of that norm day-to-day. For one, which is very concerning, the desire to have the conversation is suppressed since one disagrees with the current political climate. This suppression occurs due to being frightened to voice their views or opinions. Maybe a fear of discomfort, retaliation or alienation.
Next, and most concerning, is the resignation of many in the pursuit of healthy political dialogue, hinting at an overall withdrawal on it altogether. This group does not realize that giving up does not make the bad go away. It locks in what is happening, allowing more of us to resign and have it be the new expectation or cult like following. Our resignation is part of the attack and strategy on our democracy. With less of us to challenge or be a check on power, their power and influence grows.
We would think that 100 of the most powerful people in our country would come together and use the power they’re given to do the right thing. We're giving them too much credit, as the expression goes, "it takes an act of congress." Hinting at just how impossible it is. THE POWER LIES WITH US. If the game is power, than we already have it. Is one person more powerful or capable than a few million? Together, we're stronger without a doubt. The responsibility falls on us to recognize and assemble it, together.
The injustices, the system, the corruption, the dismantling of our democracy and what it was founded on will not auto-correct, like some text or email feature. We are the correction. In what we do, each day. In how we treat each other. In how we show up for our community. Be the person this country needs, today. Within your home. Inside yourself, towards others.
