What is news exactly? Someones interpretation of an event? Laced with their perspective and thought?
News has a shelf life. Expiring with the next piece or the next headline. News doesn't age well and there's hardly ever a short supply.
As we quoted yesterday, "to a philosopher all news is gossip." A philosopher means 'lover of wisdom,' and if you're reading this, its because you too are a lover of wisdom, as am I, making us all, philosophers.
Its all gossip because wisdom is evergreen. It stands the test of time. Wisdom, holds up. Through bad deeds, tyranny, pandemics, wars and political unrest. Wisdom can tell us what will happen before it does. Its what our parents or grandparents inherited and tried to pass to us. As we age and experience life more, we acquire our own.
Wisdom is a great filter we can use towards others. Most importantly to our own actions and thoughts to determine what we'll do and how. News cannot help with any of that. News is immediate. News requires a response. News, is someone else’s opinions and reactions coming out in light speed. Wisdom is slow, needs stillness and presence and it takes time to set.
To all of us philosophers, news is gossip because it doesn't serve our philosophy. So do what all philosophers in history have done, stop consuming gossip (news) and pursue wisdom. It leads to a more virtuous and good life. News is a diet filled with junk while wisdom is a well balanced, diet with whole foods. Which do you think helps us live better and longer?
