Don't resent humble beginnings. The road to achievement is long and uncertain. But paved with staying on that road. The person that hits the gym everyday and holds a diet to support their vision and do it without seeing any results. The aspiring musician selling their first, self-recorded album outside the barbershop. The writer who self-publishes and sells their book outside the trunk of their car. The newly minted, passionate coach with five clients, none of which are paying yet as the coach is working for free, for now.
Just like a friend of mine, who started his own specialty coffee shop, after leaving or being forced out of a local specialty shop with brand power. (Personally, I know he was forced out and its a shame as my friend is passionate, talented and operates with goodness. Its quite sad how that played out). Slowly this new venture for him is picking up, more importantly, he is living out his dream. His way. With no intervention of any kind. Don't despise humble beginnings.
We see Amazon as this massive enterprise and don't recall that Jeff Bezos started out in his garage. When you have something to offer, a talent, a work of art, an invention, a way to improve the lives or experiences of others - you start where you are. You start small. And the road to achievement is paved, one sale at a time, one call at a time, one latte at a time.
You transform yourself in the process because you focus on doing what needs to be done. How you carry yourself. How you live up to the promises you made to yourself. How you interact with the audience or your customers - those humble beginnings. It might be slow right now, business isn't picking up, the results you want haven't yet arrived. But stay the course. Hold the line, as General Jim Mattis says. Stay on the road.
