Ryder Carroll in a recent podcast said, “goals are a lighthouse.” What he means is, goals is not a place you get to. Instead, it guides you. In the event you have never seen a light house or don’t know what they are, here is an image below:

A light house is to guide ships away from the coast, to guide them in and out of the harbor safely.
Goals are the same way. It gives us direction, it’s not the end point. This is what Ryder Carroll is communicating.
If you’re unfamiliar with Ryder Carroll he is the creator and founder of the Bullet Journal and author of The Bullet Journal Method. He has created an entire movement around intentionality, purpose and only doing what’s essential. His metaphor on what goals are is moving. Many of us focus on losing the 40lbs or making $100,000. But then what? We do not have anything else beyond the goal we meet.
Take goals to be your guiding light. On the way to where you’re headed, you’ll learn more about what you want, who you are and what you are capable of.
