It’s right around this time when the stress levels go up. Where people do not feel “prepared” for Christmas, as the U.S. knows it and how the retail industry drives it.
What exactly is prepared for the holiday? Well for some of you it could be putting the finishing touches on your trip to see family or maybe they’re coming to see you and the house is not ready. It could be that the Christmas tree may not be up yet or you haven’t purchased a present for anyone.
This is the best time of year for retail sales. Electronics, cars, jewelry, clothing, cosmetics and other lifestyle goods.
My take: skip the stuff and go for the experience. Yes you can buy your spouse a pair of sneakers, jeans and a few shirts. Or, give your spouse plan tickets somewhere. A place to go, together. You can purchase tickets to go see your favorite comedian, football team or to a concert. What about a Broadway show, the opera or something off Broadway? It could be piano lessons, dance lessons or a cooking class.
There are plenty of ways to give a gift to the people you love. While it’s harder to find the experience every year, it is more meaningful to everyone involved. The giver gives something that came from the heart. While the receiver gets to live in something they’ll probably never forget. I still remember the last comedy show, concert and pro sports game I went to.
