Discipline Can Be Misleading
It’s talked about everywhere. Even here, on this very daily blog. Discipline, or the virtue of being disciplined. It’s the thing that allows some people to work out. Or eat well. Have a strong routine. Live a healthy or successful life. But, Dr. Julie Gurner has an interesting take on discipline. In a recent podcast interview Dr. Gurner shares, “I think we talk about discipline because it feels tough to do. We’re doing the hard thing. We’re slogging through. But when we are at our best, we’re not slogging through. Great people are obsessed and they’re not slogging through. They are driven. They are motivated. They are deeply, deeply engaged. ... If it starts to feel like a slog and you’re pushing yourself every day—I mean, we all have periods of that—but [do it] too long and that really becomes laborious. To me, it’s often a flag that perhaps you shouldn’t be in that area at all."
— Dr. Julie Gurner,
It might be a red flag if you keep having to force yourself through. So, walk away with this. Know when to walk away from the thing you’re doing and you’re not getting the results. Know when to keep going and when to stop, for good.
Discipline is not only to keep going. It’s actually equal to having the discipline to know when to stop.
So, as you go about your pursuits, carry the discipline needed to do the hard work. And hold onto the discipline needed to let it go and move on. Life is too short.

Thought Provoking Questions : What do you think of discipline? Where in your life do you have it and where would you like it?
Daily I write and release a daily meditation. A quick read. Sharing wisdom and asking thought-provoking questions. Influenced by the obstacles, success and failures in my life and of others. Using history, books, current events, philosophy, and ancient wisdom. These writings are actionable, thought-provoking, designed to make your life better.
These writings are not to push a way of thinking on the reader or to force you into a certain philosophy or methodology. Rather to give you practical and real ways to handle life. This is an added tool. My writing is simply a discussion, a discourse, with all the material I read, watch, hear and consume.
