While looking at old files, I discovered a document I created called "the family constitution." It was created in 2019, before my first child was born. In it I outlined the kind of people we are and who or what we will all aspire to be. Things we do: take care our our minds and bodies, read, give generously, live with and demonstrate kindness... (just to name a few).
What we don't do: use drugs, complain, or expect anything without working for it. Increasingly, family constitutions are being created. They represent a code, an attitude of what the family is and wants to be. It helps gives us, our families a bigger and better purpose.
This week, it might be helpful if you made one for yourself and your family if you have one. Tweak it as time passes. The benefits far out weight the cost of creating on. The code aligns us, especially when life is not going the way we want, when we feel stuck or when procrastination strikes. For the remainder of the month I'll be reviewing the one I created, making some adjustments and ensuring it answers why we, as a family are here.
