In the prime of his career, musician Kid Rock was very intentional. After falling into bad habits and addiction, he exhausted every effort to turn away from the occupational hazards many face. Sex, drugs, rock and roll.
Kid Rock took ownership of his life. He did not procrastinate. His time was used wisely. The intentionality with his actions allowed him to get clean. Understanding how he got stuck in bad habits and addiction, Rock used it all to plan his life.
There was one core rule - be home by midnight. So Rock would only take gigs or performance requests that he knew he would be home by midnight. Why?
Rock was avoiding falling into toxic patterns and people. Habits that would not serve him or serve his young son.
With the core rule in place, Rock and his circle of trusted supporters, left no stone unturned. Once Rock dropped the mic from a performance, he was immediately escorted to a car, where the driver had the engine running and the car was in gear to "drive" off the second the door closed behind rock. As Rock got closer to the car, the door was already opened. The jet at the airport had its engine running.
The transportation needed for Rock was pre-selected. The type of car or cars, the route to/from the show and airport. The type of jet. All aimed to get Rock home by midnight. There was no wasted moment. There wasn't an aspect Rock or his team did not address. If a performance could not allow Rock home by mid-night, it was declined.
For each of us, we must take ownership of our lives, our time, our actions and what intentionality means. With the byproduct being curbing bad habits to then allow good and healthy habits to take over. With the focus being self-improvement and giving us an opportunity to be better. Or, placing ourselves in a better position to do the work we've been meaning to do. Sometimes it takes a detailed view with corresponding action steps. In other moments it takes help from others.
We each play the pivotal part in our transformation.
What are you willing to do to get there?
How bad do you want it?
What does it mean to you?
