If we look through the history of creation, it is not because someone asked for it to be created. Rather, the creator or inventor could not stand to live in world without their creation or invention. For some maybe ego was at play. However, to live in a world in absence of their work - they just couldn't stand it.
It could be the IPhone or IPod. A Rembrandt or the Mona Lisa. The lightbulb or solar panels.
I love the depth that Michelangelo explains his work on his David, where he simply freed David from the marble block. David was always there and all that was done was removing the excess, the parts that were not David.
As Linda Ronstadt said, "I can't not do it."
We may not have the next ground breaking invention, business or work of art. But we can make a difference in our lives. With diligence and focus. And realizing that how we live is the best way to demonstrate it all. Look within yourself. There are things you want to do. Remove the excess and free yourself. Do something, pursue it because - you can't not do it. The world is in absence of your contribution. Can you continue living that way ?
