Metaphor for life, money (and breakfast)
I found a broken egg in the fridge. It sucked! It must have been there for weeks. It wasn’t spoiled or rotten. But it was baked onto the surface it was sitting on. This was like a test for me because I am a clean/neat freak. It’s my fault, definitely a vice. I grew up like this. My Mother was the same. It’s her fault, let’s blame her.
So when I am supposed to be doing something much more productive and important, here I am sitting on the floor in front of the fridge, removing everything in the area infected by a broken egg. I mean this thing took me almost an hour to clean up. I know it’s ridiculous! HAHA!
But I started to think, at one point this was an egg. A whole egg. Not cracked or broken and unscrambled. It reminded me of old TV commercials aimed at keeping kids away from drugs.
“This is your brain….this is your brain on drugs.” And the actor on screen would play “whack-a-mole” with the egg using a frying pan.
So I came up with this clever comparison. If this egg represents my money; whole, unused and waiting to live up to its purpose then the broken egg can also represent my money.
How the egg got here I’m clueless. Except that I have a 3 year old daughter and I am almost certain she was in the fridge “playing.” Mind you the girl has toys [eye roll].
So let’s tie this together. Without organization your money will simply just spill out of your bank account and you’ll be clueless. Just as I was clueless of that broken egg in my fridge. Being organized means you know how much money you earn, spend, save and invest.
The Lesson: protect your eggs from breaking and becoming an inconvenience that you will spend a lot of time cleaning up. Time better spent doing something else or pursuing something else.
If the egg, whole and beautiful, is my money having structure and a system ; then the broken egg represents being careless, having no structure or system. [Que the frying pan…]
You get to decide what to do with your eggs [money].
