Purpose and Passion, wrapped in one.
George Bernard Shaw, the Irish Playwright wrote, “This is the true joy of life: the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a might one; being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clot of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.”
When you have a purpose of life you get excited to get out of bed. You are more excited about the work and it’s the love of the work, that staying power that keeps the purpose alive. Having and knowing your purpose gives your life meaning, it simplifies your life, it helps you focus in life and it motivates you. It will also motivate others around you.
Purpose is a buzzword used today. But, how does one find it?
Ed Mylett an entrepreneur, describes it as looking at the people you love and the thing you’ve always wanted to do. I like think of it as what can you read about all day and not be bored? What can you actively do and not hate it? Is there something you do that makes you excited, happy and focused? Have you ever been so focused on something you enjoy that you forgot to eat or even drink water, for hours? Chances are your working in or close to your purpose. It can be something you are really good at or something you’re not good at yet but don’t mind the work to be. Another great way to find your purpose is to ask people who know you well what they think you are good at? What gifts they think you have and how have you helped them.
Be a force of nature like George Bernard wrote. Stop complaining that the world won’t stop or bend for you. Let that ego go and get to work.
