Bacon From 1998
Have you ever eaten something and it takes you back in time to a specific moment?
Have you ever eaten something and it takes you back in time to a specific moment?
This happened to me last week. My wife and I were having breakfast at home and I bit a strip of bacon. Instantly, I was teleported to my past as a kid. I remember the story when my mom could afford a “real pack” of bacon. The strip of bacon I had with my wife was the same I had as a kid. How could that be?
Has this happened to you?
It got me thinking just how powerful our memory banks are. More importantly, how they can be triggered by music, food, sitting by a lake or anything else. Shamefully, I do not remember much of my childhood. But I relished this memory and got emotional from it as I relayed the story to my wife. I thought of my late mother, I thought of my childhood and what memories I do have.
One strip of bacon did that. How fascinating our minds are and the things that are recorded there.
