The New Year
What are we celebrating exactly? Some of you reading this still have to report to work tomorrow. There are those among us who are in a crappy relationship or job they hate. And still may be tomorrow.
There is magic from somthing old to something new. As a kid you may remember watching the countdown to the new year. As a teenager you attended parties and were with family or maybe friends. A time of year full of celebrations, alcohol, food, music and a good time. And much of that still may be true for you today as an adult.
What are we celebrating exactly?
That answer is different for each of us and it should be. Whatever you’re celebrating, remember this, you don’t have to have a plan effective tomorrow morning. You can still decide to figure it out, make adjustments and do what will actually work. Not what seems like the right thing to do.
Resolutions for a new year are only worth the amount of time and work you give it. There are no secret number of days to ensure that a new routine or habit will stay around. James Clear says, “habits are about frequency and repetition.” It’s not about it being automatic because as James says, you can stop any habit and never do it again. To keep a habit you simply just have to do it, permanently. It’s a lifestyle that you work at everyday not something that you can start and stop.
So while gyms and fitness centers around the country get the valet parking ready, remember, take your time. It’s best to do nothing than to start something that is not meant for you.
Happy New Year. May 2023 be what you want it to be and if not exactly, may it get you closer to the mark you want to reach. Much success, health and wealth.
