Especially If You Think It’s Untrue
How do you feel when someone you don’t know criticizes you? How would you feel if that came from your partner, spouse, or close friend? It would hurt more. Wouldn’t it? However, in their comments and opinions you can formulate your own. For starters, you don’t have to let it upset you. Your opinion, on their opinion, is not needed. And it’s not helpful. Next, remember the old sing-a-long we heard as kids, “sticks and stones may break my bones but words….” Words cannot hurt you. So since they can cause you no harm, you are unharmed by them. Meaning, words don’t have to bother you or penetrate your skin and mind. You remain unchanged.
If it’s endurable, than endure it. All you can control is your mind. Your life is colored by the thoughts you keep. So, take their critique and use it. For good, not bad. Especially if you disagree with it, take it apart. Turn their words upside down, inside out, and look at it from all angles. What is it that I can learn from this?
There should always be something we learn, from everyone. Don’t take it personal. Use it to propel you, move you, elevate you, change you, make you strong and guide you to where you want to go.
