Author, teacher and spiritual guide, Eckhart Tolle was a guest at a party. There were all forms of entertainment there, one of which was an illusionist or magician of sorts. The magician performed a trick. Getting into a huge tank filled with water, he managed to hold his breath for seven minutes.
While performing this feat, he looked and waved at the party attendee through the glass. Someone walks over to Eckhart Tolle and says, “I bet you can’t hold your breath for seven minutes.” Tolle replies with, “no, but I can stop thinking for seven minutes.”
What a mic drop!
Tolle’s reply speaks to something greater, more impressive. The world around us is so focused on status, imagery and illusions. We miss the important aspects of ourselves and life. Sitting down with your thoughts can be scary for some and difficult for others. This, precisely the reason meditation has been accepted by so many around the world. So we can better deal with or slow down our mind. However, the more impressive and revolutionary thing is not thinking. Having the self-control and power to do so.
Not that’s magical.
